Since 1895, Garant has been manufacturing quality tools in Saint-François-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Quebec. Today, we're proud to be Canada's leading manufacturer of tools for gardening, construction, percussion and snow removal.

More than 350 dedicated employees work in our two facilities today, manufacturing, assembling and distributing Garant products for sale in garden centres, specialty hardware stores and home building centres across Canada.

1895 :The Village Blacksmith

The story of Garant begins in 1895, when blacksmith Télesphore Garant builds his forge and begins forging farm implements in the village of Saint-François-de-la-Rivière du Sud. He restores carriages, carriage wheels, plow pedestals, hooks, picks, axes and much more. He quickly developed a reputation for innovating new techniques and better tools, persevering through tough times, and working tirelessly toward his goals.

1924: The First Factory

After the First World War, Alphonse, son of Télesphore, joined his father in business. They created a factory producing wooden wheels and handles for shovels, axes and forks.

1954: Garant, The Shovels

After the Second World War, Garant focused on the manufacture of tool handles, and in 1954 launched its first square steel snow shovel. The factory produces up to 500 shovels a day.

1959: One Million in Sales

Garant is the Canadian manufacturer with the most comprehensive range of tools and tool handles. Under the presidency of Oscar Garant, succeeding his late father, the company achieves its first million sales.

1968: The Canadian Expansion

With the opening of a warehouse in Montreal and the acquisition of a wood mill in Woodstock, Garant expands its activities across Canada. A new warehouse is also inaugurated in Toronto.

1984: The Advent of Plastic

Garant expands its activities to include the production of plastic products, thus reinforcing the diversity of its offering.

1991: A New Governance

In 1991, Garant was sold to the Hanson multinational, which invested $3.5 million to modernize the Woodstock plant and mill. In August 1996, Jean Gaudreault becomes the first CEO from outside the Garant family. In 2010 Garant is acquired by Griffon Corporation.

2021: Pierre-Yves Martin Joins the Company

After 25 years as CEO of Garant, Jean Gaudreault retires in December 2021. Pierre-Yves Martin becomes General Manager, with the mission of driving the company forward.

Garant is the official distributor of Artevasi decorative planters in Canada, expanding its product portfolio with internationally recognized designs. With 20 years of experience, Artevasi is known for its one-stop pot solution, offering a wide range of planters made from recycled plastic, traditional and glazed terracotta, and handcrafted ceramic, all designed and manufactured in Portugal.
